Frank W. Whalen
Frank is a founding member of SOS and lifelong resident. He and his wife, Joanne, first bought a cottage on Donahue Beach in 1980, tore that down in 1994, and built a home. He and Joanne are the parents of two adult sons. Frank graduated from Handy High School, attended Delta College, and graduated from Central Michigan University with a Bachelor of Science Degree. Frank is a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Vietnam in April 1968 to April 1969. He spent that time doing infantry type duties such as, walking point, squad leader, ambushes, and lastly, RTO for the company commander. He was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge (CIB) and was twice awarded the Bronze Star with V device for heroism in ground combat. In 1979, Frank and Joanne bought the franchise for the Seven Eleven store being built on Wilder Road and that is where he spends all his time. He was awarded the Seven Eleven President’s award in 2000. Frank is a member of the Bay City Lions Club and a number of Veteran organizations. He enjoys boating, golf, and racquetball.
